From Punjab to Canada —
building something worth trusting
I moved to Canada in 2018 from Punjab, India as a Masters student in Structural Engineering. I've worked in Business Intelligence ever since — but food, heritage, and health never left my mind.
Makhana — fox nuts — had been part of Indian kitchens and temples for centuries. Sacred in Ayurvedic tradition, eaten during fasts, offered in prayer. Makhana existed in Canada, but the quality wasn't there. Small seeds, stale batches, artificial flavours, palm oil. Nothing that felt premium or honest.
In October 2024 I started building Soul Foods from scratch — product design, sourcing, packaging, the website, everything. We launched in April 2025. Recently my wife joined hands in building this — together we're making sure every product that leaves our hands meets the standard we'd hold ourselves to as customers.

Bihar produces over 80% of the world's Makhana. Madhubani is where the best comes from — fertile wetlands, generations of farmers who know the crop intimately. We source directly from these farms, cutting out the middlemen who dilute quality and inflate price.
Our Makhana is jumbo grade, 18–22mm seeds, handpicked for size and freshness. Our flavoured varieties are roasted in olive oil — not palm oil, not sunflower oil. Our raw Makhana is just that: pure, nothing added, nothing hidden.
